hello,
I'm going to try Ubuntu again (boot from CD style, after the Linux kernal seemed to trash my Windows setup many moons ago).
I have downloaded 3 versions of the Ubuntu 8.10 desktop i386 iso file, only to have its MD5 sum match the amd64 iso #.
3 times? 3 different sources?
Any clues here?
I don't want to use the amd iso on an intel desktop, do I? Does it matter?

thanks, Gunga

The amd iso is for 64 bit systems, regardless of whether you use an intel or AMD 64 bit processor. Query: are you trying to install through Wubi?

No, not installing, just making a boot disk...I tried installing Wubi on another XP machine of mine, but ran into problems with the way my hardware's set up, so I let it go.

Also, I just downloaded a fourth instance of what should have been ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso, but the md5 hash matched ubuntu-8.10-desktop-amd64.iso

so...the journey continues.

I don't think I want to make a boot disk with the amd iso?
