Here you go, my desk in all it's untidyness.

That keyboard really is as grubby and yellow as it looks. It's also the only component of my first ever computer (486) still in use. I really ought to get a black and silver one, to match the monitor and mouse.

The rear view mirror is so I can keep an eye on my daughter when she's bouncing around on the bed behind me.

An ultra quick & dirty panorama of the swamp with horrible white-balance. What can I say? I'm still a total Gimp noob. I'm used to Photoshop, and usually do stitching with Canon's wonderful PhotoStitch program.

Fedora4 box far left and Ubuntu box in foreground.

If you look closely at the full tower you will see two motherboards. The bigger board is my main system, Ubuntu 5.10 above that the smaller board (mini ITX) is my dev web server running Fedore 3.

and I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to bring a camera to work... otherwise I could show you my computer at work ;-)

I'm working on three of those: http://www.izb.net/download/mainframe-02.jpg

64 Gb of RAM :-) real 'refrigerator'-like CPU-cooling, 8 power-supplies, too be short, more power then any single man can handle, 24/7 surveillance, with a team of about 20 standby's that can get on-site in less then half an hour, during work-hours about 40 people constantly suppporting and coding... It's a madhouse :-) but its ****ing great...

The computer closes to you on the left is my wife's Dell XP. The system under the window is my file/ftp/printer server running Breezy with an HP LaserJet 1200 attached. The sytem in the corner at the big corner desk is my main system running Breezy. I built the corner desk myself a few years back. There's also another system that's not in the picture running Breezy w/KDE (although I didn't install Kubuntu) that is my jukebox. I couldn't get it all in the pic.

Thanks MMA. This set of tools, though much, much harder to use than the ultra simple Canon PhotoStitch, does a much better job. I just finished having a real close look at the pic and can't find any hint of the stitch lines at all. With PhotoStitch, you can almost always find em if you look hard.

Let me give you a bunch of links to save you a ton of time:

http://rbpark.ath.cx/articles/compile-hugin-ubuntu
This is the install tutorial. It has one error. The Panotools CVS source code download doesn't work as advertised. Probably the filename at sourceforge got changed or something. I ended up just grabbing the tarball and compiling that. It worked fine.

http://rbpark.ath.cx/articles/create-panorama
http://blogs.linux.ie/xeer/2005/02/03/autopano-sift-making-panoramas-fun/
http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~nowozin/autopano-sift/
http://blogs.linux.ie/xeer/2005/08/03/autostitch-stitching-photos-made-easy-even-in-linux/

NOTE: Autopano.SIFT totally refuses to work when I let it downscale resolution. The default setting just won't work for me. I set it to "keep input size" and then it works. YMMV

NOTE 2: It needs a LOT of RAM on a bigger stitch job. I'm running a 12 pic stitch now and the box has slowed to a crawl. I looked at top and it has used up all my RAM (1 gig) and a gig of swap space on the hard drive too. Who knows how long it'll take to finish now? Guess I'll go to bed and see if it's done when I wake up.

NOTE 3: Gave up on that last stitch. The 12 files were directly out of a 4 megapix camera, and were like 870kb to a meg+ each. It was totally out of space to work and would have taken weeks to finish and wore my hard drive out.

So I resized each one down to 1024x768 (around 85kb each) and ran it again. That worked fine. I watched it in 'top' and it used almost all the ram, but never touched swap. But the results were bad. It did a bad job and you can clearly see the ugly stitch lines (diagonal!). I assume that's because of artifacting introduced by shrinking the jpg's. My camera outputs jpg's. What I should have done is immediately convert those to tiff or something and then shrink. Alternately, I'll need more RAM. Lots more.

My desk (http://www.lovesunix.net/desk.jpg)

It's not much but it's home -say hi to Price the desktop and Finlay the phone (I mean laptop.. but all it does it serve to be my backup and skype box currently).

Lots of paperwork and little gadgets spread on the table as well - I'm sorry for the mess.

I linked instead of put the image inline as it's rather big.

Just some pics I took a few mins ago (no tripod so the ones without the flash are blurred). Most of my stuff is in the garage loft but its cold and dark so I ain't trecking out there now.
