Hi,

I have been trying to install Ubuntu on Dell Inspirion B120 with Celeron M, preloaded with Windows XP.

I burnt cds with 8.10 and 8.04 and tried both. I got to the page where you can choose to "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer", "install ubuntu", "check cd for defects", etc. I checked both cds and both were fine. However I can't get the Live CD to run and I can't install. After clikcing install, the CD makes lots of noises, the screen goes black and then ubuntu colour and the little thinking circle turns for a while. It does this several times as if it is trying to install, runs into some problem and tries again. After several time the screen goes dark and it stops. There is no problem booting windows afterwards. Any ideas out there?

Thanks, Yuill

Have you tried safe graphics mode? At the main menu press F4

you can also try the alternate install cd, its text menu based. But it may work.

Thanks for the response...

I just tried safe graphics mode and now have a black screen.. with root@ubuntu:~# Not sure where to go from here.

Am just downloading the alternate install cd.... to see if that will work.
