I have a question about upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid...

I, foolishly, didn't know that Kubuntu Intrepid with KDE 4 had been released, and I tried installing KDE 4 on my Hardy box, which for the most part worked fine. But there are a few errors here and there, which I suppose can be expected.

I want to upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid, now, but I want to keep the personal files in my home folder intact (Music, documents, movies, etc). Will either a CD install/Adept upgrade remove all the previous KDE 3&4 installations I've made and make, basically, a clean install of KDE 4 with Intrepid while keeping my personal documents safe, or will I have to back up all my documents? (Slightly difficult, over 100 gigs and I don't want to go out and buy a new hard drive)

Any help would be appreciated :) Also, I apologize if the post is a little convoluted, I'm kinda tired at the moment.
