HP PSC 1350 only printing magenta

I have installed an HP PSC 1350 on my Ubuntu 8.10 box. It prints but everything comes out one color.. magenta.. I am currently using hplip but have also tried the default gnome printing system with the same result. The printer will print black.. i know this because it has a self test page it will print which does come out black.

I can scan with xsane and i dont care about the card reader...

Any help is appreciated.

Same problem with a friend of mine, but that's a Deskjet 895Cxi printer
