Are the installation CD images updated at all?

Are the live and alternate CD images that are available on the main Ubuntu site updated on a regular basis throughout the supported lifetime of a release, or do they remain exactly the same as they were at the date of first release?

If they're updated at all, how often does it happen?

I'm wondering if it's sensible to download a 'newer' image in order to avoid having to download so many updates after an installation.

Hi Mike, the images are generally static, therefore an update after installing is necessary.

If/when the CD images are updated, they are given an incremental release number like 8.04.1.
