I would like to install ubuntu as a second OS on my computer. Right now the only way we run ubuntu 8.10 is from a space-challenged 4GB usb drive with persistence enabled.

We have a 80 GB main hard drive for Windows. We recently bought a 750 GB internal hard drive that is installed fine and visible in ubuntu. We partitioned the drive with about 250 GBs for me, 450 for the family, and the 50 left over to install ubuntu on. Can we just go ahead and install ubuntu on to only the 50 GB partition?

PS - WE don't want to just wipe the whole disk over because there is about 100 GBs of music from CDs on the 450 GB partition that took 24 hours to copy, and we don't want to back it up AGAIN.

Use the Manual option when you get to Prepare disk space then select your 50GB partition
