I am using ubuntu 8.10 amd64 alternate cd.

I want to setup up a raid-encrypted-lvm system.

Design:
2 SATA Disks: sda & sdb
1 small (sd[ab]1) and 1 large (sd[ab]2) partition on each
raid 1 the partitions across the 2 disks
/boot on the small raid (md0)
Encrypted partition on the large raid (md1)
lvm on the encrypted partition, 1 volume group & 3 logical volumes root, swap & home
ext3 on /boot, / & /home and all with the right mount points

Problem:
Grub failed (I think it was "/dev/mapper/md1_cryptp1 does not exist")
basically looking for kernel in the wrong place I believe.

Tried /boot & lvm on sda and it worked.

Tried /boot & encrypted lvm on sdb and it failed in the kernel(?)
(At the point where it is supposed to ask for the password I believe)

Boot from (hd1,0) ext3 <uuid>
Starting up ...
Loading, please wait...
Enter passphrase to unlock the disk /dev/disk/by-uuid/ (sdb2_crypt): Command failed: Error opening device: Is a directory
Anyone got such a setup to work from the installer?
Should I just try and add encryption and raid to the functioning install?
Use the live cd?
Something else?

Thank you.
