View Full Version : France, Italy ands Spain using Linux?

I remember reading a few years back that the french government was about to start a huge project, where the entire public sector would migrate to linux over a period of 4 years and starting in 2008/09.

Supposedly they would use some altered (and proprietary) Suse distro, developed by themselves, which would obviously not be open source.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Also I remember reading that parts of both the spanish and italian public sectors were planning to do the same.

Could be interesting to see what impact this would have on Windows after a few years implementation. One could imagine that if all secretaries, clerks etc. is using Linux on the job, they'd switch to it at home as well, simply because it's what they know and are used to.

It certainly is, but I haven't been able to find any official sources. Something from the french parliment (can't speak french btw) or from EU.

Also, I was hoping for follow-up stories on the status of things now, perhaps from someone "on the inside"..
(yes, I know that wasn't really clear in my initial post, sorry :oops:
