Programes dismissed on the task bar

Hi,
I met a weird problem recently. At first I opened several windows on my destop, and each window could be found in the task bar. But sometime, I could not find some of them in the task bar later.

For example, when I wanted to reboot the PC, it reminded me whether or not to save an edited document. But I could not find the window in the destop, nor the task bar.

How could all these programs be shown on the task bar?

First, how many "desktops" (workspaces) do you have your system set for. There is a setting in the Window List Applet that lets you set whether to show only current workspace, or show all workspaces. :P
