The UK's Linux Format magazine* has announced the winners of their 2008 Reader Awards, and Ubuntu Forums has scooped the prize for Best Support Resource, usurping Google who had previously dominated the category.

A warm congratulations to Ubuntu-Geek and the team! Of course, everyone who has contributed to making these forums such a success can also give themselves a pat on the back.

* LXF115, released 8 January 2009

I would vote for nexuiz, enemy territory: quake wars, or x2: the threat.

I hate those boring, no action/shooting/killing casual games :(
But they are popular so it isn't very strange frozen bubbles won the competition, I guess.

That is sweet! Do we have a link to an official resource with this information?

Like I said, it looks like they've not yet published it on their website (http://www.linuxformat.co.uk). I read the results in the current issue of the magazine.

Yay, I love frozen bubble, especially since my ET:QW cd got a scratch (don't work) and my laptop doesn't run any 3D games. I'm surprised that ATI didn't make it on there, but that is probably because most people are ticked that their cards don't work when the driver is still developing. So far they've done good with the OSS driver though. :D

Outstanding and a pat on the back to all the staff and users of the community. We've also won the best community award from Ars Technica in 2005 :)

Having travelled my Linux journey to where I am now, I'd have to agree that this is the best community support available.

Well done everyone.

Perhaps google searches will invoke a standard response:

There is no substitute for community. :guitar:

Thanks to Ubuntu-Geek & all of the others who have bought the Ubuntu Forums into existence, maintaining it as the place for this community to be. :KS

Admist all these thanks and warm fuzzy feelings, I would like to mention that I would personally like to see the Cafe reinstated or the OMGPP subforum.

I'll be quiet now and go sit in the corner.

Admist all these thanks and warm fuzzy feelings, I would like to mention that I would personally like to see the Cafe reinstated or the OMGPP subforum.

This was an award for support, which is the primary role.

Nothing to do with community discussions.

PS: Please keep future discussion on-topic.

Intel's more than just graphics, though, which is probably why they won. My intel graphics, sound, and wireless card all work flawlessly with Linux with no need for tinkering.

That is probably true. My wireless works almost flawlessly, and my sound does work flawlessly.

Embedded Linux award: Nokia (Trolltech)

Nokia own Trolltech now... So they basically won both first and second place?

I managed to flick through a copy of this magazine earlier, I quite like the fact they mentioned that the award does in fact normally go to Google :)

I think its a testament to how many users we have :)
