Firefox "automatically maximizes".

Whenever I open Firefox after logging into GNOME, it automatically maximizes to take up the whole screen, and I have to use the restore button to fix it.

I don't use maximus or any other window management apps except Metacity.

Any ideas?

Mmm, try this:
First, restore the window from full screen to normal behavior.
I bet the window restores maximized, so, restore it to "normal" (floating on the screen) and then close Firefox.
Wait a couple of seconds and the reopen it.
