Hello Ubuntu forums, I was wondering what kind of software and games that everyone would recommend for every day use. It doesn't matter what it is, I just want suggestions.

Chatting: Empathy (with amsn for msn since it's currently the only client with webcam support)
Wordprocessing: AbiWord
Browsing: Epiphany
Mediaplayer: Banshee
Notes: Tomboy
Torrents: Deluge (would be monsoon but it's still not in Ubuntu)
Photo collection: f-spot

I don't play games as such anymore, but openttd and freeciv are both excellent offerings as is Battle for Wesnoth. I also have Fallout 2 running via Wine, it might be 10 years old but it remains one of the greatest games ever created.

Try Battle for Wesnoth. It's a brilliant turn-based strategy game.

You should try AssaultCube If your into FPS games, I've tried just about every free FPS available for Linux (Alien Arena, Warsow, Nexuiz, Open Arena, etc) and none of them are in the same league as AssaultCube. Great online community, great map editor, great mod community, great game.
