I have no idea where to start with something like this or which forum it belongs in, I hope you all can give me some ideas or direction. Here is what I have and need to do with it:
We use a hacked Ubuntu Live distro
We version it (1.0.0, 1.0.1, etc)
A global ENC file is used to push critical updates to past versions or prior to launching a new version
We already know how to have the ENC file push a script to grab the user's DVD version number
We need to be able to send that information in either some sort of simple messaging system (not email) or as an entry to a MySQL DB
I'm not the programmer, but when I bring an idea to him I like to make sure I at least give him a starting place. Normally I research these things, but as I said, I have no idea where to begin.
