This is a new laptop(Toshiba stallite, L 310) without any os, I first try Ubundu 8.10 which did not work, What happen was I can not see anything in the screen when I start installation. Then I try with Ubuntu 7.10 in safe graphic mode, It worked and now I have working ubuntu, but 7.10.

Please suggest to get ubuntu 8.10 (It does not have safe graphic mode ??)

Other problem, Now I can see only the moderm in the Network setting and network card did not recognized by Ubuntu. Please help me.

Get the Alternate Install cd for 8.10. There's a little checkbox on the download page for the Alternate disk.

I have this same wireless card in my laptop
go to the package manager and install ndiswrapper
then get the windows driver and install it from the ndiswrapper program.
