When I click on Add/ Remove Prog. , the window comes up but then vanishes with no error or message.
I restarted UBUNTU three times, but unsuccessful. As soon as the bar checked Dependencies , it vanishes. Please suggest.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10

well if needed, you can try synaptic.
Synaptic is sort of like add/remove but more advanced, it does the same job pretty much.
Go to system, then to administration and to synaptic package manager.
Synaptic is pretty easy to use, if you can use add/remove you can use synaptic.
