I've only been using Ubuntu 8.10 for the last few days now so I guess you could definately consider me a Newbie.

I noticed that my Ubuntu GUI login screen wasn't appearing. It will only allow me to get as far as a full screen Terminal to use my User Name and PW. When I do put in my U/N and P/W it says:

Filesystem types is NTFS partition type 0x07

The programs included with Ubuntu system are free....etc.

Then from there I can only use Terminal commands.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

You want and ext3 filesystem, did you partition your drive before install?

Yes, that was the first thing I did.

Ubuntu was working perfectly before hand

Solved part of the problem:
To run Ubuntu GUI after entering Username and Password
Input in Terminal:

startx

Although, this isn't a permanent fix. I still have to enter my Username and Password in Terminal. Any ideas on how to run the GUI login screen automatically?
