I created USB ubuntu 8.10 start up stick using System, Adminstration, Create USB startup disk. I'm using it right now to write this post. When I boot up I have several options for boot up. I chose "start up without making any changes to your computer". Will presistance settings remain choosing this option for boot up or do I have to select the option "boot up from 1st hard drive" for changes I make to remain?? I am using a 8GB USB stick(actually a 8GB MicroSDHC card plugged into USB adapter) and I left 2GB space for my personal settings.
UPDATE
I just shut down and then rebooted on the stick and all my settings remained so I guess persistence is working. It lists me as a live session user and I can't add programs using synaptic package manager. I tried the last boot up option which was boot up from first harddrive and it sent me right back to first screen. I then booted up on boot up with no changes to your PC like I did the first time and all my settings remained.
