[SOLVED] dvd player doesnt work

after i installed 8.10 it took me about 2 days to get it working properly. since then i havent had a problem until i tried to play a dvd. totem movie player opens and the FBI thingys come up but then nothing. any ideas??

Have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras from Synaptic Package Manager? Is it giving you an error message that you are missing any codecs or any error message at all?

i believe i have done that...its not giving me any error messages

i googled around a little bit and found that uninstalling totem and installing totem-xine would be better and now it works...i messed with a few other things in between but i dont think any of it did anything
