Hello,

Since I had so many problems with 8.10 I re-installed 8.04 again. The only thing is that I do miss some things that were better in 8.10 like a newer vlc player and openoffice.

Is there a way to keep 8.04 but update some programs?

Not really, no. It is because 8.04 uses these older, more tested applications that it is more stable.

There are a few exceptions. I think there is a PPA for openoffice.org v. 3.0. It's possible there is an option for VLC somewhere too, but likely you would need to compile it yourself from source.

That is a pity to hear, but thanks anyway.

I think I will just need to stop my hunger for new software and features and take what works.. :)

Thanks!
