Acer 5050 running 7.1 should I upgrade?

After spending hours and hours and hours trying to get 8.1 installed and giving up, I finally got 7.1 on my Acer 5050. That's after I had already tried loading it also to no avail.

So, do I really want to try to upgrade to 8.1? Maybe just to 8.04? I've read enough in the forums to see that Acer has a lot of issues regarding graphics, wifi, dual processors, and sata. Some comments seem to say that 8.04 is more stable than 8.1. Others say they wished they stayed at 7.1.

As the Clash would say, "should I stay or should I go?"

I'm very hesitant because I don't want to start this all over again.

You answered your own question. If I have an OS that works; I stick to it.

According to that logic I'd still be using my IBM 286 with its heady 256 mb hdd and its 8mb ram, because it "worked." BBS's were awesome back then!

I'm hoping someone who has experience with an Acer can give me advice as to whether it will be more of a headache to upgrade or not, or, only to partially upgrade.

I've used 8.1 on a Gateway with a celeron processor and it worked great. It's what made me dump XP, which by the way, worked. I want to be able to use Ubuntu on my Acer because it works better.
