View Full Version : [ubuntu] white screen please help

I have installed ubuntu 8.10 but every time i try to load i end up at a white screen i think it is where you would usually get the ubuntu logo come up and a loading bar... so its at the final stage.
please help

Hi, search these forums and LinuxQuestions.org for 'white screen of death.'

Most solutions involve reconfiguring X or checking graphic drivers (I have seen nvidia mentioned in a number of white screen threads).

Lots of info on this subject. I am not an expert, unfortunately, or I would just post a solution :)

I have tried this but doesn't seem to be anyone who has just installed. it is a brand new ubuntu cd all i did was a install and nothing else it hasn't got past the login stage

OK, what sort of hardware are you using?

Did you verify the cd before attempting the install?

Have you successfully run Ubuntu off of a livecd on the hardware in question?
