Icon creation in Xubuntu

I would appreciate it very much if I was showed how-to -
create an Icon as a shortcut on my desktop for readily accesible application.e.g. Abiword and Pysol are the two Items that I would like Iconized.I have tried right-clock, etc.,but to no avail.
I have just installed Xubuntu 8.04. My other tower is Mint 4.0(Daryna)

Hi Kato,

As Xfce uses right click on a desktop as a special menu function, this won't work for what you need.

The "Desktop" context menu is accessed by right clicking on an existing icon on the desktop (eg. Trash or Home).

The last item on this menu is called "Desktop" where you will find the create launcher option.
