No log in screen after installation

I have installed 8.10 on my Dell Desktop. After installation, I rebooted but I do not get a log in screen. All I get is a tan screen and the mouse pointer which moves when the mouse is moved. I have tried to reboot several times with the same results.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
