View Full Version : [ubuntu] Set download / upload quotas on single PC

Hi Peeps,

I have a teenage lad who needs to learn discipline in the art of downloading no more than necessary. I have a monthly quota which is sufficient for general use. The teenager refuses to try and understand how much bandwidth he is using. I would like to set a quota for him so that his total bandwidth (upload / download - he uses the webcam alot) is a certain value. Can anyone tell how to do this or point me to relevant tutorials?

I'm running Hardy Heron with 4 users connected to the internet via a broadband router which runs through my eth0 interface. There are no other computers connected in any way.

Check if ur router can set user quota.

Another option

Another possibility I can think of is a Squid Web Proxy Cache with user defined quota for downloads.
Squid is available in Ubuntu repository.
