where do the files that are updated thru update manager get store?

hi.......
i am a newbie to linux as a result i keep changin my linux os(ubuntu,suse,fedora etc) i find it difficukt to install all the upgrades once again wen ever i try to reinstall the os ..so ppl plz help me in storing the downloaded updates and retriving it later for next installation and i use a very slow mobilebroadband aroun 6kb download speed ..so plz help me..
