I was thinking of upgrading the hard drive on my Thinkpad. At the moment its a 60gb SATA 1.5, with 2mb cache. Would upgrading to something like this (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146083) make a noticeable improvement to performance (besides the obvious increase in space)? What about that compared to this (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/137456), which has a slower RPM speed, only SATA 1.5, and less cache?

Other specs: Processor 1.83ghz Core duo (T2400), and 2.5gb ram (soon to be 4gb)

Which one should I get? Those two are by no means my only options. Any suggestions of your own are welcome.

Thank you

The 7200rpm 32MB cache drive will be faster. Keep in mind that it will generate a bit more noise and also use a bit more power.

For notebooks stick with Hitachi Travelstar drives.

So, to break it down, the difference between:

Sata 1.5 vs Sata 3.0
5400rpm vs 7200rpm
2mb cache vs 16mb cache

are all small differences, but when combined would make a discernible difference?

I would say yes. HDs are the biggest bottle neck in computers and you can feel the difference.

This might give some idea of relative 2.5" hard drive performance: http://tinyurl.com/89tz97

There are a number of different benchmarks to consider.

Thx. Here are the two drives the OP listed side by side, http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2-5-hard-drive-charts/compare,675.html?prod[2040]=on&prod[1872]=on
