I was thinking of switching my kubuntu box to ubuntu. a couple of questions....

i use k9copy and k3b to copy dvd's, can I still use these in ubuntu?

My wife uses kmail. I have the /home totally copied on another drive. Can I install kmail on ubuntu and then just replace the directory to have all the emails, contacts, ect???

Any other things I should think about before I switch?

I installed Ubuntu on another machine and just think it is better. Some things just work better...
Thanks so much!

You can have both KDE and GNOME on the same install. To add GNOME to your existing Kubuntu, enter in the terminal...

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
Select your session at the login screen.
Your KDE apps will still be there.

If you are going to do a fresh install of Ubuntu, add the KDE apps by entering...
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

I have Ubuntu on my laptop and run Kate often, I was able to start Kmail and K3b on my machine.(running GNOME).

thanks, a fresh install is what i want to do...so much fooling around a clean install would be best. What about kmail, can I just copy back the backed up directory?
