So, here is the situation: I've wanted linux for ages but haven't actually bothered to install it, and I'm sick of using livecds.

Currently im running on windows xp sp3 and I need windows for school purposes. I want to keep my existing windows installation and make a new partition to install unbutu on. I currently only have one partition.

Is this possible without too much work, or should I just backup, format and make an extra partition while i re-install windows?

Defraga couple of times before you boot the livecd and install.

Use the guided resize option and you should be good to go.

Make sure to have backups that work of anything you can't afford to lose.

Okay I'm set. Thanks!

But now I need to access kernel configuration for automatic kernel module loading, where can I find it?
