I am wondering why Ubuntu loads so slow on my computer,
like 2-3 times more slow than Windows.

Is there any way to optimaze it and speed the load?

Another related question: is the defrag for Linux file system?

Thanks to everybody who responds.

Not certain about the slowness, where is it slow? Is it slow getting to the login screen or after when the desktop appears. For the defrag issue you don't need to ever really defrag because of the use of the swap partition rather then page files like windows. There are defraggers for linux but I've never really needed them and I'm a person that did defrags once a week when I ran windows.

Both stages are quite slow, even grub is slow. The slowest part
is the load of linux with the word "ubuntu" on screen.
Loading Gnome after login will also take several seconds.

Will the size of swap affect the speed, i have swap 386k.
is it small or ok?

loading time

stage 1 (til login screen) - 72 seconds
stage 2 (gnome after login screen) - 22seconds

Is it typical or slow?
