I discovered this by accident, and I'm amazed! In Metacity (because Compiz is broken on this computer at the moment,) you can middle-click any part of the window border or titlebar to move the window to the bottom.

Yeah, for some reason Kdenlive exported a 300 Kb blank Theora file, which uploaded right away and then didn't work.

It only works if the window is unmaximized.

I've already parted ways with Alt-Tab... having 2 monitors means I never minimize anything :).

For me it works on all windows. Are you using a different Window manager from Metacity?

wait clicking... with a mouse? no thanks. I use alt-tab because I dont want to move my hands away from the keyboard.

I have a "mouse mode" and a "keyboard mode." Now, the mouse mode is practical in more situations than it used to be.

Ha, I figured this out by accident a few days ago.

So it does, I'll stick to Alt+Tab so I can control the order

You all should try the windows logo key and tab (logo_key+tab)

With Ubuntu it works by default.

This is another one of those Linux window management things that have been there for a while (did you know you can maximize a window vertically or horizontally by right or middle clicking on the maximize button in Compiz, and I think Metacity?)

IMO:

If you fix your compiz, the Dodge Effect on Focus, Ring Switcher, Grouped Window Tabbing, or Scale are all far superior forms of window management.

This works in KDE out of the box - I prefer Alt+Tab though.

I have something even better than using layered windows. In E17, middle clicking on the titlebar makes it shade. Now I don't need a taskbar (but probably will still use one because other people sometimes use my comp).

With Ubuntu it works by default.

Yes, and on most computers, compiz is enabled by default. ;)

another cool thing I recently discovered was that if you place your mouse over the "Windows List" on the panel , and scroll with your mouse wheel it will bring the differents windows to the top as you scroll.

Very useful.

Vert useful.

The scroll button does a lot of stuff in GNOME (and GTK+). I find it annoying when I use something non-GTK+ that I can't scroll between tabs with the wheel.

But sadly there is no option to set the number of lines scrolled, this is frustrating.

I didn't know you could do that, well I still prefer Alt+Tab with Compiz but it's nice to know other options

I must say that with multiple workspaces and the Scale plugin in Compiz assigned to the upper right corner of the screen I rarely use a taskbar and never(!) Alt+Tab

Yeah I also prefer Alt+Tab (really I am just changing windows not looking for a show) But I also think the effects are nice.
