I just purchased an Acer Aspire One and want to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it. I've done a Ubuntu install on other machines but I'm confused about the Netbook Remix. Is there an actual iso I can download to create an install CD? Or do I have to install standard Ubuntu and then somehow install the new netbook remix desktop through the repository or through a CD?

According to this article you first do a standard Ubuntu install and then add the netbook remix repo to install netbook remix:

Since the netbooks are low power machines it would probably be better if there was a netbook remix iso you could install without having to do a full Ubuntu install first.

There is an available Ubuntu Netbook Remix 1.0.1 iso. I installed it in my Aspire One and it worked great :D!

Just beware it is NOT a live CD/USB. If you boot and hit enter it will wipe the drive completely and install Ubuntu Netbook Remix! It does not offer drive partitioning in the install...

Check out:

I've tried Acer's version of Linpus Lite they put on the Aspire One's with the SSD drives. It is way faster on boot up and shut down but if you don't like the restrictive desktop it's not as enjoyable to use.... That's why I switched to UNR (besides the fact all of our other systems are Kubuntu/Ubuntu based ). UNR is rather slow booting when compared to Linpus Lite which is Xfce based but a lot more flexible.

Enjoy!

I agree on the boot time.

I timed them.

Linpus Lite (default OS) = 18 seconds.
Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 = 53 seconds. (ext3)

(Aspire One A110 with 1.5Gb of RAM)

There are some guides to getting the wireless working on the AAO here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne

These should work for netbook remix also I would think.

And welcome to the Ubuntu forums!
