Can anyone reccomend a wireless pci card that is compatible with ubunto ootb ?

I second that. I recently set up my wife's computer with Ubuntu and her Atheros-chipped wi-fi card was phenominally easy to set up.

Atheros is the shiznit, I got one of them, my setup consisted of choosing whether to use DHCP or manual IP and what network to connect to :)

The madwifi drivers are included in linux-restricted-modules package. They should work out of the box.

EDIT: the madwifi drivers are the one for any atheros based card.
