What version of Ubuntu are you running? What sort of tweaks have you done recently?

EDIT: I have discovered that this error occurs most commonly when a user is using KDE Apps on a Gnome system. Are you running any KDE apps such as Amarok?

my other gnome pc had same error, if you close appearances and try again it will open normally. It has something to do with one of the GTk+ engines. to me it was a minor inconvenience, it was a 10 yr old PC Friday I'm donating it to the daycare my wife works at, for her kids to play with Edubuntu

It does have to do with that engine because the KDE apps delete/mess it up (differently on every system).
