8.04 update failed

I have not updated my Ubuntu for about a year. This is because I am running VMWare and the changeover to the new kernel is painful. Want to update now and all attempts fail. What do I look at to troubleshoot this?

I am sorry, It is 7.10, which was a very stable version when I installed it. i think I will just upgrade to 8.04 LTS and see if it all works then.

Under downloading, it says that it is downloading 7 of 21. Then under details each download but one failed. Is it possible that it is looking for the wrong address? has the download site address changed?

I am certain that the network connection is good. I have been downloading email all day on it.

Reading another thread here, I selected the direct connection option and am happily downloading updates.
