Adding bass mixer control to alsamixer

I recently acquired a new pair of headphones. As such, I need to alter the bass level to my liking. However, there is no control to do so under alsamixer. Is it possible to add mixer controls? I am using Ubuntu 8.04.

I don't think that's possible. However, see this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578. I have not tried it. You probably only need the Eq Appendix. Most of the rest is about properly setting up PulseAudio.
