I want to do a manual install of the driver for my graphic card,Nvidia Geoforce 4 440 Go. This is due to the problem described in thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1018453).

I have searched and read many post about problems in linux with this driver...but for me as a newbie it is just too difficult to understand. I have found a proposed a driver in thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=151982). I can try this, but I dont know how to install it. What do I have to do? Do I have to save it to a floppy/usb etc such that I can access it in my dell laptop? (remember, I only have limited display in the terminal window, GUI is not readable, xorg.conf file is empty....as described in my post linked above) and what do I have to write in terminal window to install the driver?

Anyone that knows how I can solve this problem?

Ingvald

The second link is old and the driver has been updated since then. If you want the latest driver for your card go here http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html click on download drivers and follow it thru to get the driver for your card.

You will also find installation instructions where you download from.

I did allready checked nvidia website, but I can't find the driver for my card. The geoforce4 440 Go is not available in the drop down meny, only other series. Even when I choose Legacy drivers the Geoforce serie 4, 440 go is not available. Any suggestions?
