I am ready to try a different tack when it comes to solving the conundrum created in this thread:
"How to enable audio in VLC and Movie Player (Amarok/Youtube has)"

YouTube and Flash were working fine, but in meddling with missing sound in VLC and Movie Player, the former two are now out of order. Un- and reinstalling flash hasn't done the job.
Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.
