I am planning to dual boot ubuntu with vista. My processor is an AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-50 and I have 4 gigs of RAM (2-2GB sticks). As I understand, this is capable of running a 64 bit OS. Should I then install 64 bit ubuntu? Vista is 32-bit, does that matter?

its up to you, you can install 32 bit if you like, but you can install 64 bit Ubuntu if you so choose -based on your processor info

- it shouldn't matter if your vista is 32 bit or not.

- hope this helps

Ur PC definitely supports 64 bit and this has nothing do with ur installed Vista.

There are several discussions on 32 or 64 bit? in this forum for ur reference.

I recommend the stable Hardy Heron LTS, the next release 8.04.2 which is on 1/1/2009.

Good luck!

if you install ubuntu 64, and vista is 32, it does not matter. if you'll look in the forums, there have been problems with 64. burn both cd's and install whatever you think is best. most likely you'll never notice the performance increase that 64 supposedly offers.

But 64 bit manages your memory better. With 32 bit you'll find out that the OS recognizes only 3.2 GB.
