so i want to use ubuntu instead of xp home edition so i installed it with wubi installer, now every time i boot up ubuntu, it checks the installation, this takes forever. and once it finally booted up the mouse got frozen and remained frozen, i was forced to hard boot the desktop. i know this is bad for it though. my desktop is a compaq presario with an AMD sempron 3000+ processor, 60 gb ultra DMA hard drive and 256 mb of SDRAM. before i ran the wubi installer, it said that i only had 191 mb out of 256 of memory and that installation might not work right, i went ahead and did it anyway. how can i fix this?? do i need more SDRAM, if so which kind? how much memory??

If you are going to get more ram I would suggest a min of 512mb for ubuntu. Can you post your Compaq Presario model?

Download Memtest86 (http://memtest86.com). It will check your ram to see if it is good.

If you are going to upgrade your ram you probably will need

PC2700 184 pin DDR SDRAM DIMMs.
