Hi everyone,

I had Ubuntu 8.04 installed until today. I tried upgrading to 8.10, but couldn't get my mouse and keyboard to work. Is there any way I can install 8.04 and wipe 8.10 on my hard drive? And is it possible to recover the contents of my home folder? I also have Vista on this computer, which I'd rather not remove, and the only option I can find on the install disk is to format the whole hard drive.

Unfortunately you will have do a clean install of 8.04, as there is no way to downgrade. I would suggest using the LiveCD to backup your important files and then do the installation, make sure your Ubuntu partitions are unmounted, then pick manual partitioning and use the partitions you previously used.

Move your /home folder to a new seperate partition and install 8.04 to the current 8.10 partition should do it.

I was trying to use the LiveCD, but it wouldn't let me login. I tried my usual one, nothing, and ubuntu, nothing worked. I'm kinda a noob so it's probably just that :P.
