please help me.i have a hp deskjet 840c printer which has been working fine,until now.i transfered some photos from my mobile phone to my computer and wanted to print them.i wanted to change the size and type of paper used to 4"x6" glossy photo paper but i could not do it.i looked up help options which said to download hplip driver? i did this but i cannot run the installer.please help me as the photos are of my kids with their xmas presents and i wanted to give some copies to relatives.thanks.:confused:

What program are you using to print the files?
Are you using Ubuntu 8.04? if so HPLIP should be available in synaptic package manager.

Is that where you are trying to install HPLIP from then?

no,i downloaded it from website.if it is available in synaptic package manager will i need restart computer for new drivers to take effect.or will i be able to select the changes i need to do what i want through f-spot when i have selected print and then change settings required.thanks.

I wouldn't think you would need to reboot the machine, but it is possible & may be advisable.
Have you looked at the SPM (synaptic)
Alternatively type this in to a terminal:

sudo apt-get install hplip
