configuring a broadcom wireless adapter inbuilt to a dv9000 running kubuntu 8.10

good evening. i am attempting to activate my wireless network card inside my DV9074cl. i must be missing a few steps as to enable it thru the terminal. ive tried a few ways. but ive lost myself..lol. im new to linux and kubuntu 8.10. thanks for your support. let me know if you need more information.
