hi linux folks. these are my first steps into linux. i got some trouble with my dual head configuration and would like to ask you for a solution. i got this notebook and an external TFT with a bigger resolution. if its not connected and enabled the log-on screen doesnt appear on boot. i used aticonfig to get it working with xinerama:
sudo aticonfig --initial=dual-head --desktop-setup=vertical --vs=on --resolution=0,1280x800 --resolution=1,1680x1050 --screen-layout=above --add-pairmode=1280x800+1680x1050 --overlay-on=1 --force
the configuration without xinerama looks more beautiful and maybe ill like it better having two sessions. but without the xinerama line gnome doesnt start at all. i can move the mouse around and on the 2nd screen the cursor changes to an X... what does it mean?
heres my conf.

on connect and disconnect (on lid close also) id like the notebook to react correctly, moving the windows to the active screen each time. id like to use compiz fusion also. but it fails starting up and i dont understand why. :( the terminal often outputs this error message, maybe thats a hint.
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".
thank you for any advice.
EDIT:
when i enter the command compiz --replace he outputs:

Trying again with indirect rendering:

aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity
