After my previous thread:

This does not work. I also lost my windows boot menu. What can I do now?

Which Asus motherboard are you using and what chipset is on that motherboard?

If you are having problems with the 64 bit Ubuntu then I would install the 32 bit Ubuntu. Use the 32 bit Ubuntu 8.10 alternate install CD for the most fail safe install. You can install 32 bit Ubuntu on a computer with a 64 bit CPU .

If you can't boot Windows and need to fix the master boot record, here is how to do it for XP and Vista:
