Black Screen

My computer's screen is completely black and all i can see is my mouse courser, I can play music via keyboard so everything works just fine except the picture. The log-in screen is just fine along with the start-up stuff. Once during my many restart secessions the desktop flashed normal. I am pretty sure it is my graphics card, it is kinda old, but I thought I would ask you guys what you think before gutting my computer.

I have exactly the same problem on my recently installed copy of Kubuntu... Any help would be appreciated!

try a different monitor connection like vga

Install envy(is in ubuntu).
Then remove video drivers, and install with envy the drivers.
With nvidia you can choose 3 different ones.
