Hi everyone,

I'm trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10. It gets through the "preparing for upgrade phase", then gets to the "setting new software channels" part and this error message appears:

W:Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon_ - Release i386 (20071016)]/dists/gutsy/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
, W:Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon_ - Release i386 (20071016)]/dists/gutsy/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Then it craps out. Any idea what's going on here?

If you are currently running hardy, how come there is a gutsy repo (cdrom) in your /etc/apt/sources.list?

Can you post your /etc/apt/sources.list?

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and place a # in front of the first line to comment it out.

#deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon_ - Release i386 (20071016)]/ gutsy main restricted

Save it and close gedit editing window. Then run

sudo apt-get update
Now, see if you can upgrade to intrepid.
