Hi! Recently I bought new ASUS EEEPC 901 and installed Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" on it. As everyone (I presume) I had this problem with wifi, hotkeys, shutdown etc. I've spend plenty of time trying to find solutions to every of these problem apart, while I've found this site: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=282850. There are some links for scripts which should solve all described problems. Unfortunately they are all dead. My question is: maybe someone knows other links to these scripts, or at least know how to solve wifi problem if official solution (madwifi and Ndiswrapper) didn't work?

I also receive "battery may be broken" issue - does anyone know how to deal with it?

Thx for help!

Btw: as it is my first post on this forum I would like to say hello to everyone ;)

any reason you're not wanting one of the readymade ubuntus?
eeebuntu 2.0 using Ubuntu 8.10 is already out:
http://eeebuntu.org/
Easy Peasy (nee Ubuntu-eee) using 8.10 is due out 1/1/2009 but the current version is 8.04:
http://www.ubuntu-eee.com/

This thread (http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=429545) in the eeeuser.com forums seem to suggest that its the best way to go....

I don't have too much knowledge about Linux itself (using Ubuntu distro for about 2 months) and I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my previous laptop (AMILO Pi 2550). Therefore I've thought it would be better for me to use similar system on both laptops + I knew only two Ubuntu distros(?): Kubuntu and main Ubuntu. Thanks for your advice! :) Of course I would rather install ready made system within 1 hour than spend whole day searching solutions for EEEPC Ubuntu problem. :/

Hi AceCraft,

This is my 1st post also (so hello everyone, and please be gentle..).

I have had Hardy installed on my 901 for a week now, and I love it!
I installed the Easy Peasy build (http://www.ubuntu-eee.com/)
There are still a few minor probs but for the most part, it works pretty well.
I also had some wifi issues, which were solved by installing wicd and ditching network manager.

HTH,
Craig

Thank you both! In the end I decidet to install this eeebuntu and I'm not disapointed. It solves all problems + as I could notice is slightly quicker than original Ubuntu 8.04 heron. Although there are some difrent problems like: all time mounted USB drive, cfdisk command not working (while fdisk does!): FATAL ERROR: cannot open disk drive.
