I think you are joking..
But just in case. Linus Torvalds is the one who created the Linux Kernel.

Now thousands of developers around the world contribute to the Linux Kernel.

Linus??

Linus Torvalds is the friendly chap who created Linux

Linux, very simplified, is basically the name of only one file inside the Linux distribution you're using.
It's called the kernel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel
Richard Stallman from FSF and GNU thinks that we all should be talking about Ubuntu GNU/Linux, because Linux is only the name of the kernel, most of the other applications are not really part of the Linux kernel project.

And Linus2009 could be a kind of fancy name for a new Linux distribution ;-)
.. I very vaguely remember Slackware96 being released iirc.

Here's a guide on how to upgrade your existing ext3 filesystem to ext4:

That may be, but it doesn't give you the full EXT4 experience. ;)

Why when you can use this PKGBUILD (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Compilation_with_ABS) to install it alongside your current stable kernel?

:confused::confused: Sorry but I've had plenty of "full experiences" building and rebuilding filesystems. In place upgrades are a much better experience IMO. Especially when they work! ;) If I wanted to rebuild every time a Filesystem or an OS got a major upgrade, I'd still be running Windows. :P

Can anyone give a good or interesting reason to play with ext4 apart for fun ?
I liked playing around with btrfs a while back, and with ZFS longer ago.
Was just glancing through this :

I'm about to do a fresh install of Arch on my Desktop, 99% of my data is backed up already so I might as well wait for the new kernel with the new install. Generally I just wait for the kernel to appear in the repos though :)

What? Don't you have tons of 16TB files you've been dying to save to an EXT filesystem?!? ;)

To the average user, they may see a bit of a performance increase with EXT4, but most people don't have a need, or ability to scale high enough that reap the rewards EXT4 brings in over EXT3.

Yes. that's right! That's what I meant.

Well, looks like I used the wrong word. It should not be "shocking", more like "funny" & "unexpected"

Anyway, albinootje does that photo really look like serious to you?
It looks to me as if Torvald is about to cry or simply annoyed.

Someone should change the photo of Torvalds, it looks ridiculous.

I think Linus is just frowning his forehead, or thinking about something difficult.
But I agree that there are a lot nicer photos from him, I prefer the photo on the english wikipedia page.

I am on the 2.6.28 kernel now, with Grub2 booting it. I'm backing up my laptop's hard drive on my new 640GB external hard drive and then will whipe it clean so it is formated to EXT4 and restore my backup. What fun. ;)
