I know how to install Ubuntu on an usb flash drive, but I don't know about "speed requirement" with flash drive. for example, with this flash drive:

http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=107&LangNo=0&Func1No=1&Func2No=76
speed:

Transfer Speed:
Read 10 MByte/s, Write 3 MByte/s (below 4GB);
( I have enough money to buy a 4GB or less flash drive :( )
with this speed, does it enough to install Ubuntu on it?
If not, can you suggest me which usb flash drive is ok for me? thanks

Are you planning to make a persistent USB install or just Live bootable USB?

Speed performance in USB is always worse than HDD.

I have an OCZ Rallye 2GB. It is supposed to be high-speed, the specs from the manufacturer claim "Up to 28MB/s (read), 15MB/s (write)". I put Ubuntu 8.10 live CD (it needs cca 640MB + I set 400MB for the persistence file which still leaves about 1GB free for whatever) on it via "Create USB startup disc" tool. The boot time is acceptable and when it finally reaches desktop, it is definitely faster than the regular live CD.

So unless you like waiting, my advice would be to get tha fastes one you can afford. :)
